The correct string for your electric instrument depends upon the type of pick-up being used, with a choice between electro-magnetic and piezo-electric pick-ups. Magnetic pick-ups are mainly used with guitars and with these sorts of pick-ups, ferro-magnetic strings (those which contain nickel and stainless steel) should be used only.

On the other hand, piezo-pickups are used with electric instruments such as Yamaha Silent Violins™. For these instruments, you should choose strings with a wide variety of colors and a large overtone spectrum. |

FOR DOUBLE BASS In general, all of our double bass strings are suitable for piezo-electric pick-up while the synthetic EVAH PIRAZZI and OBLIGATO strings are especially suitable. Their technical versatility – both for arco and pizzicato – makes these strings an excellent choice. All of our steel strings are suitable with magnetic pick-ups. The OBLIGATO synthetic strings can also be used with magnetic pick-ups. Read on here, why musicians highly value PIRASTRO strings for double bass.
